Shearwater Lake near Warminster, Wiltshire, is open 24hrs per day, every day of the year, Shearwater Lake offers fishing, sailing, biking (no bike hire facilities - bring your own), and walking opportunities.

Fishing At Shearwater Lake: Shearwater Lake is part of the extensive Longleat estate, and at 37 acres is a great place for fishing (carp to 26lb, bream, roach, tench, perch, and rudd). The local saying is that "If you can't catch fish at Shearwater then you shouldn't be fishing". New stock was added to Shearwater Lake in 2011 - 12 Simmo Commons 17lb - 19lb plus 150 carp at 2lb – 4lb. Overnight fishing is extremely popular at Shearwater, it is not unusual in the summer months to see 30+ bivvies there. The nearest tackle shop to Shearwater Lake is Steve's Tackle, George St, Warminster tel: 01985 847 634. Steve's Tackle say that all methods work. Sailing At Shearwater: Sailing on Shearwater Lake is only allowed for members of Shearwater Sailing Club. For information on sailing at Shear Water Lake click here. Windsurfing on Shearwater is not allowed.

Shearwater Lake Walks: The woods around Shearwater Lake have public rights of way through them, so that you can extend your walk for several miles, or stay to the tarmac path around two sides of the lake. If you want to extend your walk, but not by too much, then if you head out of the far end of the lake, around the white barrier, and take the left hand of the second fork of the path, then keep going left until you meet back up with the path you started on, near the barrier, you will see enchanting woods. This takes about an extra 20-30 minutes.

Cycling At Shearwater Lake: Mountain biking is available in Longleat woods, which adjoin the lake, with the Black Canon Collective cycling club.

Car Parking: Car parking at Shearwater Lake is from just 50p (opposite the entrance to the lake) or £1 beside the lake. Mind your valuables.

Dogs: Dogs are welcome at Shearwater, but must be kept on a lead around the lake itself, please take the dog mess away with you or use one of the bins provided.

Eating At And Near Shearwater Lake: There are a thatched tea rooms 'Bargate Thatch', and a 'Fisherman's Rest Cafe' at the entrance to Shearwater Lake -  (tel: 01985 213255 for both for opening times), they do a Sunday roast to order, all day breakfasts, and will deliver hampers to fishermen. Alternatively if you head east out of Shearwater Lake you will come to the The Bath Arms, Clay Street, Crockerton, Near Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 8AJ map, Telephone:- 01985 212262 Fax:- 01985 218670 Email: batharms@aol.com. Head south on the A350 and the nearest pub is the The George Inn, Longbridge Deverill, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 7DG map tel: +44 (0)1985 840 396 fax: +44 (0)1985 841 333 email: info@the-georgeinn.co.uk. In Warminster there are lots of good places to eat, click here. The nearest supermarket is Morrisons on the road into Warminster (it also has a petrol station and cafe). Around Shear Water Lake are grassed areas, and parking, so it's easy and pleasant to take a picnic without having to carry it for miles.

Toilets: There are no public toilets as such at Shearwater, however you might come across a portaloo, mainly intended for fishermen, hidden amongst the bushes near the water's edge.
